Digital Photography History

Posted By: Admin on November 2, 2011 at 8:48 am

Let’s talk a little about the history of digital photography. It will be a ‘good to know’ knowledge isn’t it?

Two scientists from U.S. George Smith and Wilard Boyle invented a device named as charge-coupled device or image sensor which is actually the main component of digital cameras. They basically intended to install a camera system in mobile phones and hence they thoroughly studied the application of CCD in video cameras. They revealed the basic concept of CCD to the public, outlined the mode of operations of CCD and studied the application of CCD in good quality video cameras. The CCD technology was first used for television broadcasting as the quality of the image was superior as they appeared very clear.

Today the CCD technology introduced by them is not only used for broadcasting purposes but also used for several video applications such as television, facsimile machines, bar code readers, and was also used for converting the light energy into a devise of providing information.

Utilizing the CCD technology, the Sony Corporation produced the first digital camera of prototype that consisted of magnet and other electronic devices used to capture and record images. The magnet that created impulses on a compact floppy disk was used to record the images in the camera that were captured. Initially this camera produced an image of 72000 pixel and the images that were captured were stored on the floppy disk either in Field mode which consisted of a single track or Frame version which consisted of two tracks. Then in 1986, the Kodak scientists further improved some parts in the digital camera and introduced a camera that records 1.4 million pixels and this camera was capable of performing seven functions of recording, storing, operating, printing, relaying, and also print images. The first digital camera was introduced and sold by the Kodak Company. Later on the Xap Shot model that was introduced in the market consisted of still improved features such as self-timer, flash system and was rechargeable by lead battery.

Then in 1990 a Logitech model that was launched could still store more images and consisted of 256 grey shades according to the background. This camera was connected to a computer to produce and store images. Then lately the Apple Quick Take model that was introduced consisted of internal memory to produce and store images as it consisted a tiny system of computer in the camera itself. Nearly 30 inventions took place after the CCD technology was invented by the two great scientists.

Digital Camera for Kids

Posted By: Admin on August 30, 2011 at 6:18 am

Yes, even kids can learn digital photography. Don’t be surprised if your five year old asks for a camera as kids learn technology at younger age today. However, you do not need to buy an expensive camera for them. There are some cameras in the market that allows a kid to handle easily.

When buying a digital camera for a child, look for one that is easy to use. Here are some tips to help you find the right digital camera for your child.

The first thing to remember when buying anything for kids, including a digital camera, is that they like to be entertained. While kids can be quite good with technology, if they get bored with it, they will lose interest quickly. A camera with engages features that will hold that your attention is what you need to look for. The younger the child is, the more important this becomes. For younger children, be sure to look for a camera that they will find appealing. Cameras with movie character and cartoon themes are available for young children. Games and programs designed to help the child learn to use the camera are sometimes included. No matter what camera you choose, the important thing is that it holds your child’s attention long enough for them to learn how to properly use it.

Another thing to consider when buying a digital camera for a child is the type of batteries that it uses and how long they will last. Replacing the disposable batteries that most cameras designed for kids use can get expensive. You could look into an adult style camera that has a rechargeable lithium battery and comes with the charger. Look for a camera with a long lasting battery because children don’t always have access to a way to recharge their battery.

There are many similarities in buying a digital camera for an adult and buying one for a child. You always need to consider the age and experience level of the child but also the features that the camera offers. Because your child could take pictures in a dark or poorly lit room, a camera with flash is a good idea. This is really a feature any camera should have, as you don’t want to be limited by the amount of light that is available. As long as your child is capable of handling an adult model, a lower end one might be better because not all kids cameras come with flash. You will find that today’s camera is very different from that of yesteryear. Your child’s age and ability level will weigh heavily on how much you will spend on a camera.

Of course, after buying the camera, always spend some time going out with your kid for the purpose of taking pictures. They may have some school projects that requires photography, use these chances to teach them. In doing so you are invoking their interests in digital photography and you also know that your money spent is not wasted. :)
